We all have heard the story of the Turtle vs. the Hare (rabbit) and we are all want to be the fastest on to the finish line it seems in every thing that we do. You want the fast car, shortest line at the grocery, best looking house, kids, neighborhood, schools, education or newest gadget. With all the trappings of success we want it all just like the Hare. We seem to think were smarter, faster and better that anybody else, kind of smug. As always this attitude gets you into trouble and we then began to think that the world , society, and just about everybody owes us. We have that Hare attitude. Now we start cutting corners and well you know the story. Now on to the Turtle you know that he is not the fastest, best looking, greatest and often laugh at him for even thinking that he can compete with YOU. Au, but he has the one magic trait the Hare does not have, . . . CONSISTENCY. He may not hit home runs, will keep learning a little at a time, for what ever reasons he will never be like the Hare.
Although not 100% of the time, but enough of the time you know after watching the race over and over you better stay with the Tortoise. I firmly believe in this analogy when comparing to investing. I can take the Tortoise approach and consistently make seemly low returns but when you add them up or annualize the results I some how beat the much faster Hare every month, and year.
